Horse and Rider Biomechanics Assessments
We use a range of methods to measure and interpret movement:
Rider Symmetry Jackets – Tracks upper body and pelvic symmetry, helping identify how rider posture and balance influence the horse’s way of going.
Markers – semicircular markers are placed on your horses pelvis and the back of the saddle allow us to see you and your horse move together by highlighting motion patterns and alignment.
Hoofbeat IMU System – Wireless sensors attached to the horses hooves and measure stride length, timing, and loading patterns to detect even subtle gait irregularities. You get a report for your horse detailing the findings. (Please note this is for performance analysis and we are NOT detecting lameness which is your vets area of expertise)
A typical session includes:
Static & Dynamic Assessment – Observation of posture and movement in hand and under saddle. This is then videoed so you can watch it back and understand what you can work on.
Osteopathic Evaluation – Hands-on assessment of the horse’s musculoskeletal system and soft tissue balance.
Results & Recommendations – Clear feedback with videos and gait analysis report, followed by advice on exercises or training adjustments.
Tailored osteopathic treatment - You can choose to add a treatment session on for you or your horse to address any issues identified.
Why Choose a Biomechanics Assessment?
Whether your horse is in full competition work, recovering from injury, or you simply want to improve comfort and performance (or are just curious), a biomechanics assessment can help:
Identify movement asymmetries or compensations
Improve rider balance, seat and coordination
Support rehabilitation after injury or surgery
Enhance performance and longevity in sport horses
Complement veterinary, manual therapy, and training programmes
Our goal is to help horse and rider achieve optimal balance, comfort, and connection through a deeper understanding of how you move together.
Because when movement flows freely — performance, soundness, and wellbeing follow.
Horse & Rider Biomechanic Assessments
Bringing Balance, Comfort and Performance to Horse and Rider
Every horse–and every rider–moves differently. Subtle asymmetries, muscle imbalances, or compensations can impact comfort, performance, and long-term soundness. Our Horse & Rider Biomechanics Assessments use a blend of hands-on osteopathic evaluation and objective motion analysis to gain a complete picture of how you and your horse work together.
We look beyond isolated symptoms to understand how the body’s structure, movement, and balance interconnect — because only by treating the cause, not just the effect, can we achieve lasting improvement.
